If you are over forty years of age and have made a parachute jump or tandem skydive, you are invited to join the Parachutists Over Phorty Society or POP´S as it is better known as.
background of the society:
POP´S is a society for skydivers over forty, the first POP´S was founded in 1966 in the USA and has spread to many countries around the world. POP´S societies hold regular meets in their own countries and every two years hold a world meet. Competitions at meets include accuracy, formation skydiving and the special POP´S competition the hit and rock. Membership requirements are that a person has made a parachute jump or tandem skydive and is over forty years of age.
Objective of the society:
The objective of the society is to encourage the continued participation in the sport of skydiving for those over forty years of age. The society is non-profit making with any surplus funds being made available to the South African skydiving teams .
Local history:
Some years ago an attempt was made to establish a south african chapter .the response was reasonable but calls for action fell on rather deaf ears and the idea lay fallow . Later fresh interest was generated by john browett aka “old man john” and the south african chapter was formed with him as top pop #1.
Earlier last year john felt it was time to retire from this position and sourced a successor. Having been the principle organiser behind the first S.A. POP´S meet held at Witbank skydiving club i was approached and accepted the Position..
